Abstract
Through music one can communicate through messages told in the form of their own personal experiences, using poetic words or wordplay to create the special appeal of music lyrics. Music can also have negative and positive effects, it all depends on the message conveyed or revealed in the lyrics of the song. This research discusses a song sung by one of the K-Pop girl groups, Girls On Top, entitled “Step Back”. Step Back is a song that tells about dropping other women just for a man's love. The lyrics of the song are too toxic and a woman who drops another woman just because of a man so it refers to misogyny. Misogyny is a crime caused when women hate their fellow women. This research aims to find the meaning of misogyny in the lyrics of the song “Step Back” by Girls On Top using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotics. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research method. The lyrics of the song “Step Back” are then analyzed using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic analysis which examines the meaning of the signifiers and markers in the song “Step Back”. From the results of the analysis conducted, it can be seen that each meaning of the signifier and the signifier in the lyrics of this song contains the meaning of misogyny and overall the lyrics of the song are an attempt by a woman to another woman to step back because she has disturbed and wants to snatch her partner.
