Abstract

This research was written because the role of mother is a role that continues to evolve over time. And in the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once, there are many scenes in it that illustrate the basic but at the same time complex role of mothers. This study aims to determine the meaning of the role of mothers in the movie Everything Everywhere All At Once. The research method used is Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics with functional structural theory by Talcott Parsons which is the basis that we need to understand to understand a social role, namely mothers in this context. He believed that in every social role there is a pattern of behavior which he wrote down as the AGIL structure (adaptation, goal attainment, integration, latency). Charles Sanders Peirce semiotics is used to interpret the meanings and symbols in selected movie scenes. The results of the study show that the mother's role is full of adaptation in parenting, the mother will follow the child's development and give relevant attention to her child. Then a mother has personal goals to hone the child's potential. A mother is a role that reminds the child to take responsibility for his behavior, and she is a role of reminder for the child to continue to live with the right morality.
