Abstract

This study aims to examine the representation of a mother's prayer as emotional and spiritual support in the lyrics of Tapi by Perunggu. This research employs a qualitative approach using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic analysis through the concepts of signifier and signified. The primary data consist of the song lyrics, while secondary data were obtained from books and literature related to semiotics, family psychology, and spirituality. The findings reveal that the representation of a mother's prayer is constructed through a sequence of signs that gradually develops from the opening verse to the outro. The signifiers depicting uncertainty, life struggles, homesickness, and the process of maturity generate meanings of affection, care, protection, hope, and inner strength embodied in a mother's prayer. The study also finds that a mother's prayer is represented not only as emotional support but also as spiritual support that provides confidence, peace, and meaning in facing life's challenges. Therefore, the lyrics of Tapi function not only as a musical work but also as a communication medium representing family values, affection, and spirituality through a system of signs.
