Abstract

This study analyzes how audiences interpret the representation of sustainable public transportation in Jakarta on the TikTok accounts @pt_transjakarta and @cecilianov using a descriptive qualitative approach, a constructivist paradigm, and Stuart Hall’s reception analysis theory. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with seven purposively selected informants from diverse educational and professional backgrounds. The findings show that @pt_transjakarta represents sustainable public transportation from an institutional perspective by emphasizing service development, network expansion, and socio-economic benefits, while @cecilianov highlights user experiences through accessibility, intermodal integration, navigation, and the evaluation of facilities at CSW Bus Stop. Most informants were categorized as dominant hegemonic, while the rest occupied a negotiated position, with no oppositional readings identified. Differences in interpretation were influenced by informants’ knowledge, experiences using public transportation, educational backgrounds, and the production interests underlying each account’s representation of sustainable public transportation in Jakarta.
