Abstract
Suicide remains one of the major mental health challenges in Ireland. To strengthen suicide prevention efforts, the National Suicide Research Foundation (NSRF) established a partnership with the European Alliance Against Depression (EAAD) through the EAAD-Best project. This study aims to analyze the strategies employed by EAAD as an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) in building international cooperation through its partnership with NSRF in Ireland. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach and a single case study design. Data were collected through library research, document analysis, and secondary data analysis derived from official organizational reports, academic publications, policy documents, and statistical data related to suicide in Ireland. The findings reveal that EAAD developed international cooperation through three main strategies: the transfer of knowledge and best practices, the promotion of public awareness and education, and the monitoring and evaluation of program implementation. These strategies were implemented through the adoption of the 4-level intervention model, capacity-building and training activities, mental health awareness campaigns, the establishment of the Cork-Kerry Alliance Against Depression, as well as evaluation and cross-national learning mechanisms. This study concludes that, as an INGO, EAAD plays a significant role in building international cooperation through knowledge transfer, capacity building, public awareness enhancement, and program monitoring and evaluation, thereby supporting suicide prevention efforts in Ireland.
