Abstract
Patients undergoing intensive care in the ICU face a variety of problems and complications, a common one being the development of pressure ulcers. Furthermore, current trends suggest applying moisturizers to hydrate the skin, with topical oil-based moisturizers being an alternative. Implementing nursing care based on Evidence Based Nursing in intensive care patients using topical fish oil in an effort to prevent pressure ulcers in intensive care patients. This research is a descriptive observational case study conducted in the ICU 1 of Tarakan Regional Hospital, Jakarta. The subjects consisted of two patients undergoing intensive care with total bed rest and at high risk of pressure ulcers as assessed by the Braden Scale Score. Data were collected based on objective data and physical examination. The intervention provided was topical fish oil administration of approximately 2 cc once daily on the sacral area according to the SOP. Both patients were patients with total bed rest and were at high risk of pressure ulcers based on the Braden Scale Score assessment with limited right-left tilt immobilization independently. After topical fish oil administration, there were results of pressure ulcers being prevented and an increase in the Braden scale of patients with good skin integrity conditions. Topical fish oil innovation can be given to areas of bony prominences such as at points at high risk of developing pressure ulcers regularly to prevent the occurrence of pressure ulcers due to prolonged bed rest and inadequate immobilization.
