Abstract
Adolescence is a critical period in personality development that is influenced by family and social environments. Parenting styles and peer pressure play important roles in shaping adolescent personality, particularly among students of Vocational High Schools (SMK) who are in a transitional phase toward the workforce. This study aimed to examine the relationship between parenting styles and peer pressure with the Five-Factor Model of Personality among adolescents at SMKN 28 Jakarta. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 282 respondents were selected using proportional random sampling. The research instruments included the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ), the Peer Pressure Inventory (PPI), and the Indonesian version of the IPIP-BFM 25. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s correlation test. The results showed that peer pressure had a more consistent relationship with several dimensions of the Five-Factor Model of Personality, whereas the relationship between parenting styles and adolescent personality tended to be weak and not significant across most dimensions. These findings indicate the dominant influence of the peer environment during late adolescence. The results of this study may serve as a basis for developing promotive and preventive interventions in community nursing through adolescent mental health education, strengthening coping skills, and collaboration with schools and families.
