Abstract

The 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) reported that 16.9% of pregnant women in Indonesia experienced Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED). CED develops over time due to various longterm factors. This study aims to analyze the determinants of CED among pregnant women from generations Y and Z in Indonesia. An analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design was used, involving 1,978 respondents. Data analysis showed that the provision of additional food (p = 0,000), consumption of foods high in Omega-3 (p = 0,024), and foods rich in BCAA (p = 0,021) were significantly associated with CED incidence. In contrast, education (p = 0,733), employment (p = 0,955), Antenatal Care (ANC) visits (p = 0,559), anemia (p = 0,519), consumption of milk and its derivatives (p = 0,057), and consumption of nuts and their derivatives (p = 0,527) were not related to CED incidence. CED remains a significant public health issue for pregnant women in Indonesia. Therefore, this study is expected to serve as an educational reference and a basis for developing more effective policies to reduce the prevalence of CED.
