Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease that requires adherence to treatment to prevent serious complications. However, many individuals with hypertension struggle to maintain regular medication consumption as recommended. One psychological factor suspected to influence medication adherence is self-compassion, which refers to an individual's ability to accept themselves with understanding and kindness when facing challenges. This study aims to analyze the relationship between self-compassion and medication adherence among hypertension patients undergoing treatment at Puskesmas Kembangan. The research employs a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, and the data is analyzed using the chi-square correlation test. The sampling technique applied is purposive sampling, involving 100 respondents. The instruments used in this study are the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS-8). The results indicate a significant relationship between self-compassion and medication adherence among hypertension patients, with a p-value <0.001 (<0.05). This study is expected not only to provide insights into hypertension education but also to contribute to helping patients develop self-compassion, thereby improving medication adherence and reducing the risk of complications resulting from uncontrolled hypertension.
