Abstract

Hypertension is known as "The Silent Killer." It presents symptoms such as headaches and elevated blood pressure. These symptoms can be alleviated through various therapies, including non-pharmacological music relaxation therapy. The purpose of this pre-experimental quantitative study was to determine the effect of music therapy on headache intensity and blood pressure in hypertension patients in the Pisangan Baru Village Area, Jakarta. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 42 hypertensive patients who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through headache assessments using the Numeric Rating Scale instrument and blood pressure measurements using a calibrated sphygmomanometer. The Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test was used for data analysis. The findings indicated a significant effect of music therapy on headache intensity in hypertension patients (p-value < 0.001); similarly, there was a significant effect of music therapy on blood pressure (p-value < 0.001) and on both headache intensity and blood pressure (p-value < 0.001). Thus, it can be concluded that, for hypertension patients in the Pisangan Baru Village Area, Jakarta, music therapy significantly reduces headache intensity and blood pressure. Implementing music therapy in hypertension patients can help alleviate symptoms of headaches and high blood pressure.
