Abstract

Background : Problems in postpartum mothers related to the lactation process. A mother who cannot optimally breastfeed her baby may develop breast problems. Objectives : This study was conducted to determine the factors associated with breast milk obstruction in multiparous mothers at the Penjaringan and Kelapa Gading Health Centers in North Jakarta. Methods : This study used a cross sectional research design and was conducted on 129 samples through purposive sampling. Data collection used the Breastfeeding Motivational Instructional Measurement Scale (BMIMS) and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS – 10), which had been tested for validity and reability. Results : Statistical test results using the spearman correlation test (p < 0,05) showed a relationship between age, occupation, education level, parity, rooming-in, birth spacing, breastfeeding success, nipple condition, breastfeeding frequency, maternal motivation, breast care, maternal stress, and postpartum complications with breast milk obstruction. However, there is no relationship between the mother’s motivation and stress with breast milk engorgement.
