Abstract

Online dating systems are starting to change the way people meet, find partners, and form interpersonal connections. People's lifestyles and behavior have changed with technological advances. The online dating application Bumble can be a solution for users who have limited time to build relationships and socialize directly. The online dating app Bumble is different from other apps because it requires women to make the first move. This research aims to find out how female users build interpersonal relationships through the Bumble application. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The research results show that female users tend to start chats that are general and not too personal. Bumble users also need time to get to know potential partners more deeply before they decide to meet in person and take the relationship to the next stage. The communication pattern that occurs is divided into 4 stages, namely the orientation stage, exploratory-affective stage, affective stage, and stable stage. Based on the four stages specified in the social penetration theory, only three of the six research informants managed to reach the stable stage.
