Abstract
Film is one of the mass media that can significantly influence the dissemination of various helpful information about the social realities in people's lives. Similar to this, the movie Kembang Api has effectively brought up societal issues around mental health difficulties through its portrayal. On March 2, 2023, the Japanese adaptation of Herwin Novianto's film Kembang Api was released. In Indonesia, this movie is ranked fourth among the best Netflix productions. The aim of this study was to use Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis technique to interpret the meaning of the representation of anxiety disorders in the film Kembang Api through denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings. This study uses a descriptive qualitative technique, using primary data from the Kembang Api scene and secondary data from library sources such as reference books, journals, internet media, and expert interviews. The findings of this study show that the Kembang Api film depicts anxiety disorders through several scenes involving the behavior and dialogue of a group of people suffering from anxiety disorder symptoms who intend to end their lives due to differences in each of the life problems that befall them.
