Abstract
This research aims to explore the political process and economic impact of the dynamics of banning TikTok Shops in Indonesia in 2023 through the implementation of Permendag No. 31 of 2023. The research method used is a qualitative method by accessing primary data through interviews with resource persons or through observation of relevant literature studies according to research needs. The theoretical framework used is the theory of protectionism analysis. The results of this study show that the process of political dynamics that occurs reflects the complex interaction between political, economic, and social interests. This policy is an effort by the Indonesian government to protect local interests, especially Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), from unfair competition and adverse pricing practices by foreign sellers on the TikTok Shop platform. The steps taken by the government are an effort to protect the economic sector for MSMEs for e-commerce platforms. However, Protectionism is a policy that can have negative consequences if used for a long period of time. This makes the restriction of global market access for Indonesian products can hinder long-term economic growth. Thus, Permendag No. 31 of 2023 aims to maintain the stability of Indonesia's digital economy by protecting MSMEs, predatory prices, and preventing market monopolies. This policy creates a fair business environment, but it must also consider the potential impact on imports, exports, and international trade relations.
