Abstract

Communication style is the unique way each individual conveys a message. For a food vlogger, having the right communication style is crucial for attracting attention and building a connection with their audience. Therefore, this research aims to identify the communication style of the food vlogger Codeblu on the TikTok account @Codebluuu, using Heffner's communication styles: assertive style, passive style, and aggressive style. The method used is descriptive quantitative with content analysis. The sampling technique employed is purposive sampling, determined according to specific criteria and covering the period from September 2023 to February 2024. The unit of analysis consists of 30 video contents comprising 69 texts, 69 Audio (voice) elements, and 133 images. Data were analyzed descriptively and presented in frequency and percentage tables through coding performed by two coders. The research results indicate that the assertive style, characterized by clear, polite, and respectful language, has the highest frequency in the verbal communication category, with a percentage of over 60% in the text sub-dimension and over 50% in the Audio sub-dimension. Thus, the content uploaded by Codeblu on TikTok is predominantly assertive in communication style. However, the aggressive style, marked by dominating, argumentative, and disrespectful language, and the passive style, characterized by non-assertive and conflict-avoidant language, also play a role. Meanwhile, in the non-verbal communication category, the image sub-dimension with the complement indicator has the highest frequency, with a percentage of over 60%.
