Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the non-communicable disease that has a high prevalence. One of predisposing factors that influence the increasing prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus is lack of public knowledge. Therefore, it’s needed to education such as counseling to improve public knowledge. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of counseling with leaflet media in improving the knowledge about prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus in West Pamulang villagers. This study is a “Quasi experiment” with research design “One group pretest – posttest”, cluster sampling and purposive sampling technique. The total sample is 70 people who have high risk factors of type 2 diabetes mellitus and collecting data using primary data from questionnare. Result of bivariate Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed that there’s an increase in the average value of knowledge after counseling with leaflet media. This can be ascertained from the difference in the average knowledge before counseling with the leaflet media (3.89) and average knowledge after counseling with the leaflet media (6.16) is 2.27, and the results of statistical analysis showed that the value of p 0.000 (95% confidence interval) which means that there are differences in knowledge before and after counseling with leaflets media. It can be concluded that the counseling with the leaflet media effectively to improve the knowledge of the prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus in West Pamulang villagers in Puskesmas Pamulang.
