Abstract

As social beings, humans in their lives need each other because they cannot live alone, they need a friend or bestfriend. Friends who are present in our lives can relieve the feeling of loneliness, be a helper and accompany us in times of need. Friendship itself is often used as a theme in a film. One of the film that uses the theme of friendship is You and I, however, this film is a documentary so the story of their friendship is shown as it is. The purpose of this study is to find out the representation of the value of friendship contained in the You and I documentary by using Roland Barthes semiotics which uses the idea of two-stage signification. Researcher used semiotic analysis because they wanted to explore the value of friendship contained in the film, both verbal and nonverbal. This study used descriptive qualitative with data obtained through film scene documentation and interviews. The results of this study prove that the representation of the value of friendship is depicted in You and I films through the concepts as seen from dialogue and visualization through the signs in the film in semiotic studies. The result is the true friendship in this film is sincerity, mutual support for each other, loyal, caring and strengthening.
