Abstract
This study aims to discuss the reality form of rape culture on Instagram and the characteristics of messages containing rape culture contained in a comment. Harold Lasswell's theory of communication is used as the basic concept of research which is limited to using other concepts, namely, Instagram and rape culture. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with the method used is content analysis by using primary data sources from documented materials, namely the comments section from 5 celebgrams. Secondary data in the form of journal notes, literature reviews, previous research, scientific articles and other reading sources that have similar topics that support the research. The sampling technique was collected through the selected comment section on the object of research by determining the comment selection criteria. Researchers used data analysis stages according to Miles and Huberman which consisted of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The final result of this study shows that a form of rape culture is found on Instagram with 9 data categorizations in the comments of the five celebgrams. Characteristics of messages that contain elements of rape culture can occur implicitly and explicitly. It was also found that emoji’s can be a form of comment containing rape culture and captions also play a role in the climate of a comment section.
