Abstract
Background : Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases with a high prevalence that may lead to serious complications if not properly managed. Family support plays an important role in the successful control of hypertension through a family nursing care approach.Objective : This case study aimed to describe the implementation of family nursing care for patients with hypertension based on the theory of five family health tasks. Methods : The study used a descriptive design with a case study approach involving one family with a member suffering from hypertension in Pancoran Mas Village, Depok City. Data were collected through interviews, observations, physical examinations, and documentation using the nursing process stages, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Results : The assessment results showed that the client experienced dizziness, blurred vision, fatigue, and blood pressure above the normal range. The main nursing diagnosis was ineffective peripheral perfusion related to the family’s inability to recognize hypertension problems and care for sick family members. Nursing interventions included health education, warm water foot soak therapy, low-salt diet education, support for family decision-making, and recommendations for implementing a healthy lifestyle. The evaluation showed an improvement in the family’s knowledge and ability to care for family members with hypertension, increased adherence to a healthy lifestyle, and a decrease in the client’s blood pressure. Conclusion : Comprehensive and continuous family nursing care is effective in helping control hypertension and improving family independence in providing home care.
