Abstract
This research is titled "Content Analysis of Instagram Account @jokowi in Building Public Communication During the 2024 Presidential Election". The background of this study includes several factors: the high use of social media in Indonesia, reaching 60.4% of the total population; the widespread use of Instagram by public officials as a medium for public communication; and the significant number of followers on the Instagram account @Jokowi, which reached 58 million as of June 2024. The presidential election is also often used as an opportunity to build effective public communication. The purpose of this research is to understand how the categories of public communication functions (informing, educating, entertaining, and influencing) are utilized in the content of the Instagram account @Jokowi during the 2024 presidential election campaign period. The research method used is quantitative content analysis, with the research object being the content of the Instagram account @Jokowi. This study includes all content uploaded during the campaign period from November 28, 2023, to February 10, 2024, with a sample of 145 posts obtained using the Stratified Random Sampling method. The results of the study show that of the 145 posts, 54% of the content functions to inform, 14% to educate, 9% to entertain, and 23% to influence. Informing is the most dominant function. In terms of content type, it was found that 120 posts (83%) are images, while 25 posts (17%) are videos. These findings indicate that images are the more dominant content format used on the Instagram account @Jokowi during the 2024 presidential election. The conclusion of this research is that the Instagram account @Jokowi effectively uses the social media platform to perform public communication functions. The content uploaded not only provides information but also educates, entertains, and influences the public, in accordance with the principles of public communication and the type of content used aligns with the principles of new media theory.
