Abstract

This research examines the role of the Quality Control section of a television station in gatekeeping a broadcast program. The researcher explores the gatekeeping process carried out by the Quality Control section of Surya Citra Televisi (SCTV) on the drama broadcast of the soap opera Buku Harian Seorang Istri. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach using primary data sources obtained through interviews with relevant informants and participatory observation, as well as secondary data sources obtained through literature reviews in the form of books, journal articles, and reports from related institutions. The technique used by the researchers to select informants was purposive sampling. In addition, the researchers used Miles and Huberman's data analysis technique, which includes data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions or verification. The final result of this research shows that the Quality Control (QC) section of SCTV has a role as a gatekeeper. The task of a gatekeeper in a television station is to maintain, supervise, and select broadcast content in accordance with broadcast program standards and applicable rules. Furthermore, the gatekeeping process in the drama soap opera Buku Harian Seorang Istri is divided into three stages, which are previewing the broadcast, editing (material revision), and passing the QC.
