Abstract

Film is a fairly powerful mass communication medium. Films can tell how social life exists in society and the gaps that arise from problems that occur. One of the functions of film is to depict a sign of a relationship in society.This research aims to look at the stages of the formation of interpersonal relationships that exist between couples through film media in Indonesia. The film Pariban Idola Dari Tanah Java, which has a duration of 1 hour 41 minutes, was chosen because the author saw that the stages in the process of forming interpersonal relationships are represented completely in this movie. In line with this, this research uses a qualitative approach using Charles Sanders Pierce's semiotic analysis theory. Researchers conducted an in-depth analysis of each scene to determine signs that describe the process of forming interpersonal relationships. The results of the research show that the film Pariban Idola Dari Tanah Jawa shows the process of interpersonal relationships in the Moan and Uli couple which starts with introduction, involvement, closeness, the emergence of conflict, as well as the efforts they make to repair the weakened relationship, and ends with the termination of the relationship between both of them.
