Abstract
The high number of elderly hajj and umrah pilgrims has led to an increase in dehydration cases, especially during summer when the temperature exceeds 40°C. Dehydration is a frequent condition in vulnerable individuals such as the elderly, particularly in high-temperature environments. Dehydration can be perilous for the elderly, if severe, may result in fatalities. This situation can be avoided by possessing adequate knowledge and maintaining good practices to meet fluid requirements and prevent dehydration. The aim of this research is to examine the correlation between the level of knowledge and attitudes towards preventing dehydration among prospective elderly hajj and umrah pilgrims. Method: The study adopts a cross-sectional approach in observational analytical research with subjects that meet the study's criteria, totaling 50 samples. Results: Out of the subjects, 62% (n=31) demonstrated good knowledge, and 56% (n=28) exhibited adequate attitudes, predominantly among females. The majority belonged to the age group <65 years, accounting for 82% (n=41) of the subjects. Bivariate analysis indicated a relationship between knowledge and attitudes among prospective elderly hajj and umrah pilgrims in South Jakarta in 2023 (p=0.035). Conclusion: Data analysis indicates a connection between knowledge and attitudes among prospective elderly hajj and umrah pilgrims in South Jakarta in 2023.
