Abstract

Mental workload is known to have an effect on work productivity. Bogor District Fire Service Workers are required to serve the community regarding fire disasters. They are also required to work quickly and swiftly, and are always ready for 24 hours, plus the dangerous field work conditions that risk causing mental workloads, which in turn will affect work productivity. The purpose of this study was to determine the mental workload of workers using a standard questionnaire from NASA-TLX. The design of this research was descriptive observational with cross sectional research method. The research was conducted in October 2020 January 2021, on 118 workers who were divided into groups of staff and field workers (firefighters and rescue workers). Samples were taken by proportional stratified random sampling. The results of the mental workload research on the staff group were categorized as very high (83.20) with the dominant indicators being temporal demand, mental demand, and performance. Meanwhile, the mental workload of the field workers group was also categorized as very high (83.69) with the dominant indicators being physical demand, effort, and temporal demand. So that efforts are needed to reduce the mental workload of officers on the indicators referred to.
