Abstract
Patients discharged from intensive care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) are at risk of experiencing physical impairments as part of Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS), which can lead to a decline in functional status and increase dependency on their families. Patient dependency in performing activities of daily living (ADLs) has the potential to cause psychological distress in families, known as Post Intensive Care Syndrome-Family (PICS-F). One of the psychological impacts of PICS-F experienced by family caregivers is anxiety. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the functional status of post-ICU patients and the anxiety levels of their family caregivers. This study utilized a quantitative method with a descriptive correlational design and a cross-sectional approach. The research was conducted on post-ICU patients and their immediate family members acting as caregivers at RSUD Tarakan Jakarta, involving 66 pairs of respondents selected using incidental sampling. The research instruments included the Barthel Index to measure the patients' functional status and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) to measure the families' anxiety levels. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman’s Rank correlation test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that most post-ICU patients experienced mild dependency (65.2%), while the majority of family caregivers did not experience anxiety (42.4%). The Spearman correlation test results indicated no significant relationship between the functional status of post-ICU patients and their families' anxiety levels (p = 0.412; r = 0.103). This study concludes that patient functional status is not a factor significantly associated with the anxiety levels of their family caregivers. Future research is expected to explore other factors potentially influencing the anxiety levels of post-ICU patients' families to develop interventions that reduce their psychological burden, particularly anxiety.
