Abstract
ABSTRACT This research aims to understand the audience reception of the Historika Film YouTube Channel toward the screening of the animated film trailer "Merah Putih: One For All," produced by Endiarto under the Perfikitv banner. The 2-minute and 1-second trailer successfully attracted 1 million viewers and more than 20,000 comments by October 2025, garnering significant attention from the public regarding its message and production quality. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with Stuart Hall's reception analysis. Data collection was conducted thru semi-structured in-depth interviews with five informants selected using purposive sampling technique. Data analysis technique employed the Miles and Huberman model thru three stages. The research results show that the five informants are categorized into three positions of meaning-making, namely, 3 informants are in the Negotiated Reading position, one informant is in the Dominant-Hegemonic Reading position, and one informant is in the Oppositional Reading position. This study concludes that the differences in interpretive positions are determined by variations in cultural capital and technical knowledge in the fields of animation and filmmaking. Furthermore, a gap in encoding-decoding was found, where the public focused more on technical quality, resulting in an unintended message of an impression of production immaturity rather than the nationalism message that the filmmakers actually wanted to convey.
