Abstract
The development of digital technology has transformed the media industry, requiring local media organizations to adapt to technological changes, shifting patterns of information consumption, and evolving audience needs. In this context, PanturaPost.com not only implements media convergence practices but also utilizes the Tegal Javanese dialect as a strategy to strengthen cultural identity in the digital sphere. This study aims to analyze the transformation of PanturaPost.com from the perspective of Roger Fidler's Mediamorphosis Theory, examine its media convergence practices using Grant and Wilkinson's framework, and explain the representation of cultural identity through Stuart Hall's theory of representation. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the editor-in-chief, managing editor, cultural experts, literary figures, and readers of PanturaPost.com, supported by observations and documentation of the platform's digital content. Data were analyzed through the stages of open coding, axial coding, and selective coding to identify categories, relationships among categories, and the core themes of the study. The findings indicate that PanturaPost.com has undergone media transformation by adapting to digital technological developments, consistent with Fidler's Mediamorphosis Theory. This transformation is reflected in changes to newsroom organization, the adoption of digital technology and artificial intelligence, the development of multimedia content, and multiplatform news distribution through websites and social media. These transformations have subsequently generated media convergence practices, including technological convergence, newsroom convergence, newsgathering convergence, multimedia content convergence, and multiplatform distribution, as described by Grant and Wilkinson. Furthermore, the use of the Tegal Javanese dialect in the Warta Ngapak, Moci, literary, and cultural sections demonstrates that the media functions not only as a channel for information dissemination but also as a space for representing the cultural identity of the Tegal community. Through the use of the local language, PanturaPost.com establishes emotional proximity with its audience while contributing to the preservation of local language and culture amid the rapid expansion of digital media. This study concludes that media transformation serves as the driving force behind the emergence of media convergence, while media convergence functions as a strategic mechanism through which PanturaPost.com represents and reinforces the cultural identity of the Tegal Javanese community through the use of the Tegal Javanese dialect within the digital media ecosystem.
