Abstract

Social media has now become a major source for various types of information, including politics. Instagram has emerged as one of the top of mind platforms for the public to obtain political information due to its visual, concise, and easyto understand delivery. One of the accounts providing Indonesian political information is the Instagram account @bijakmemantau.id. This explanatory quantitative study examines the influence of Instagram usage on fulfilling Indonesian political information needs among followers of the @bijakmemantau.id account, based on the Uses and Gratifications theory. This study utilizes a survey method by distributing an online questionnaire consisting of a 19 item questionnaire to respondents determined through a purposive sampling technique. Based on a survey of 100 respondents, the research results indicate that the activity of the @bijakmemantau.id account significantly contributes 43.6% to meeting the political information needs of its followers, while the remaining 56.4% is influenced by other factors outside this study. This influence is proven to be statistically significant, with a t value greater than the t table. In conclusion, this study confirms that the use of the Instagram account @bijakmemantau.id has a significant impact on fulfilling the Indonesian political information needs of its followers, while simultaneously reinforcing the theoretical assumption.
