Abstract
Objective: As the aging process progresses, elderly individuals frequently face anxiety triggered by biological, psychological, social, and spiritual dynamics. Social support and spirituality are thought to be associated with this anxiety level. This study was designed to evaluate the correlation between social support and spirituality levels with anxiety levels among the elderly residing at Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia 1 East Jakarta in 2025. Methods: This quantitative study used an analytical correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 36 elderly individuals were selected using a simple random sampling method. Primary data were collected using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS), and the Geriatric Anxiety Inventory (GAI). Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analysis using the Spearman rank correlation test. Results: The respondent profile showed moderate social support (52.8%), high spirituality levels (55.6%), and low anxiety levels (72.2%). Analysis using the Spearman rank correlation test revealed no significant correlation between social support and anxiety (p = 0.954; r = 0.010). On the other hand, a moderate negative correlation was found between spirituality and anxiety, which was statistically significant (p = 0.009; r = -0.430). This indicates that higher spirituality is associated with lower levels of perceived anxiety. Conclusion: Social support showed no significant correlation with anxiety levels in the elderly, whereas spirituality demonstrated a significant negative correlation. Thus, enhancing spiritual dimensions has potential as an intervention modality to reduce anxiety in the elderly. Reference : 89 (2015-2025); Keywords : anxiety, elderly, social support, spirituality.
