Abstract

The time looping narrative in contemporary cinema often utilizes complex visual elements to communicate hidden meanings. Driven by this phenomenon, this research aims to elaborate on the meaning of mise-en-scène elements in visualizing the time loop narrative in the film SORE: Istri dari Masa Depan. This qualitative research employs an inductive approach using Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis to examine the denotation, connotation, and myth of eight key scene units. The analysis reveals that setting, costume, lighting, and acting elements consistently function as primary narrative devices. The visualization of the digital clock marks absolute repetition, while drastic lighting transitions and the character's physical degradation represent the universe's reprimand due to the clash of human ego forcing a change in destiny. In conclusion, the time loop visualization in this film sharply deconstructs the savior complex ideology within romantic relationships, generating a new myth regarding the acceptance of fate and altruistic love, where conflict resolution is achieved through the sincerity to relinquish control.
