Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that remains a major global health issue and is often referred to as a “silent killer” because it can lead to serious complications such as stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure. In the elderly population, hypertension is influenced by physiological changes due to the aging process, unhealthy lifestyles, and a lack of family knowledge regarding health care. Objective: The objective of this case study is to describe the implementation of family nursing care for Mr. K, who has hypertension, in RT 007 RW 006, Pancoran Mas Village, Depok City. Method: The method used in this scientific paper is a descriptive case study with a family nursing process approach. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observations, physical examinations, and documentation. The case study was conducted over six days with Mr. K’s family, focusing primarily on Mr. K as the client with hypertension. The nursing interventions provided included health education regarding hypertension, blood pressure monitoring, education on healthy lifestyle habits, and the implementation of non-pharmacological interventions to assist in blood pressure control. Results: The results of the case study indicate that, prior to the intervention, the family did not fully understand hypertension and its management. Following the implementation of nursing care, the family demonstrated improved knowledge and skills in caring for the family member with hypertension. Additionally, Mr. K’s blood pressure decreased from 160/80 mmHg to 145/70 mmHg by the end of the evaluation, with an average blood pressure of 154/78 mmHg over the six-day assessment and intervention period. The family also began to be able to apply the non-pharmacological management strategies that had been taught, such as maintaining a healthy diet, limiting salt intake, monitoring blood pressure, and performing relaxation exercises independently at home. Conclusion: The implementation of family nursing care for Mr. K, who has hypertension, showed positive results in improving the family’s knowledge and independence in managing hypertension and assisting in non-pharmacological blood pressure control.
