Abstract

This study aims to analyze the practices and changes in mental accounting of K-pop fan students who have experienced fraud when purchasing merchandise. The study used a descriptive qualitative method, an interpretive paradigm, and a naturalistic approach. Data were obtained through interviews, then analyzed to identify themes from the data. The results showed that the experience of fraud was interpreted by informants as a loss event and caused changes in the informants' mental accounting practices. After experiencing fraud, informants began to manage their finances in a more structured manner and changed their decision-making in transactions. From Thaler's perspective, loss has a greater psychological impact than the nominal amount of money lost. Furthermore, from Thaler's perspective, the experience of fraud forms a new awareness in informants regarding transaction risks, the meaning of money, and consumption activities.
