Abstract
The phenomenon of "strict parent" themed content on TikTok has drawn attention for showing how personal experiences once kept private are now openly communicated in digital public spaces. This study aims to identify and analyze how strict-parent content creators communicate their personal experiences through the social media platform TikTok. The study employs a qualitative method within a phenomenological approach and constructivist paradigm with data collected through in-depth interviews with ten TikTok content creators producing strictparent-themed content. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and interpreted through Sidney Jourard's Self-Disclosure Theory, Alfred Schutz's phenomenology, McQuail's New Media. The findings show that creators' process of communicating personal experience begins with how they make sense of their childhood under strict parenting, some framing it as a wound, others as a form of care, before shaping it into content that varies in intensity, tone, and intention across informants. Even when styled to match popular trends, the authenticity of the experiences shared remains preserved. TikTok wasn't chosen by chance, but rather because it was considered a safe distance from family and close friendships, while its algorithm connected them to an audience with similar experiences. The study concluded that disclosing experiences of parental strictness on TikTok wasn't done in a uniform way, but rather by organizing these five elements according to each individual's personal considerations, allowing creators to find the safest space to tell their stories and build community with others who share similar experiences.
