Abstract

Mental disorders are conditions that affect an individual’s cognitive functions, emotions, and behavior, wich can disrupt their social functioning. One of the common issues encountered in patients with schizophrenia is social isolation, characterized by an inability to interact, social withdrawal, and a lack of skills in building interpersonal relationships. This condition requires appropriate nursing relationship and providing social skills training. This scientific papers aims to examine the application of nursing intervention strategies (SP) in enhancing the social interaction abilities of Mrs. R who experienced social isolation. This study employed a descriptive case study design through the nursing care process, consisting of assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention planning, implementation, and evaluation, conducted over four days with Mrs. R in the Bengkoang Ward of Duren Sawit Regional Special Hospital in 2026. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation guided by a nursing care format. The findings indicated an increase in the client’s social interaction abilities following the stepwise implementation of nursing intervention strategies (SP), as indicated by the ability to initiate introductions with one or more individuals, increased eye contact, better responsiveness, and the ability to initiate conversations independently. The client also demonstrated gradual progress in performing daily social activities. The application of nursing intervention strategies (SP) contributed to better social interaction abilities and a reduction in social isolation symptoms in Mrs. R, reflected by greater responsiveness, improved initiation of conversations, enhanced eye contact, and increased self-confidence.
