Abstract
Introduction: Deterioration in organ function due to both intrinsic and extrinsic causes characterizes the aging process. Ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation is one influence from the outside. The matrix metalloproteinase-1 gene, which codes for the collagenase enzyme, can be upregulated by exposure to ultraviolet B radiation. An accelerated aging process may result from collagen breakdown caused by an increase in matrix metalloproteinase- 1. Methods: The study was conducted in accordance with established protocols, including a genuine experimental design that included a control group that was not tested in any way other than the posttest. The data is examined for normality using the Shapiro-Wilk test and the Kruskal-Wallis test. A p-value of less than 0.05 was used to determine statistical significance. Results: The results of the Kruskal-Wallis test indicated an increase, although it was not statistically significant, with a Sig value > 0.05. Conclusion: At24,48, and 96 minutes after exposure to UVB, RNA from both UVB-uninduced and UVB-induced fibroblasts showed a rise in the aging gene marker MMP-1, but this increase was not statistically significant.
