Abstract
This study aims to critique the self-reward phenomenon practised by Generation Z and redirect it towards the value of falah through an Islamic phenomenological approach. Self-reward, which was originally understood as a form of self-appreciation, has shifted into a rationalisation mechanism for syahwat (desire) driven by capitalistic and hedonistic values. This study employs a qualitative method with an Islamic phenomenological approach developed by Niswatin (2022), grounded in a religionist paradigm, and involves two primary informants from Generation Z and one supporting informant as a Quranic interpretation expert for data triangulation purposes. The findings reveal that self-reward among the informants has undergone a significant shift in meaning, from an optional form of appreciation to a perceived obligatory need, and from self-appreciation towards escapism and social validation. This study concludes that falah-oriented self-reward is self-reward whose intention originates from gratitude, is guided by reason and faith, and generates meaningful benefit for oneself and others, transcending mere temporary worldly satisfaction.
