Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disease caused by progressive damage to cartilage and other joint structures, such as subchondral bone, synovium, capsule, and ligaments, resulting in pain, inflammation, and decreased function and quality of life. Osteoarthritis can be treated through Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery. TKR surgery can be performed under spinal anaesthesia. Patients after spinal anaesthesia may experience several complications, one of which is shivering. A non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to overcome shivering is a warm compress using a hot pack. This scientific work aims to analyse nursing care for patients after spinal anaesthesia with the application of warm compresses using hot packs to reduce the degree of shivering in the recovery room. The intervention involved applying a hot pack under the palms of the hands for 15 minutes. The results showed that both patients experienced a decrease in the degree of shivering from degree 2 (managed patient) and degree 1 (resumed patient) to degree 0 within 15 minutes after the intervention was administered. This indicates that the warm compress intervention using a hot pack reduced the degree of shivering and improved body temperature (36°C-37°C). This scientific paper concludes that the application of warm compresses using hot packs has been proven effective in reducing the degree of shivering, normalising body temperature, and improving patient comfort while in the recovery room.
