Abstract

Respiratory problems are one of the main causes of mortality in neonates. Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) is a condition that can occur due to surfactant deficiency and immaturity of the lungs, especially in premature babies or low birth weight babies. Pharmacological management of RDS can be accompanied by non-pharmacological management, namely the quarter prone position to help stabilize the condition. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the quarter prone position on oxygen saturation stability and respiratory rate in infants with respiratory distress. The method used in this study involved one patient under management and one patient under review. The intervention was carried out for 3 days for 60 minutes with monitoring times of 0, 15, 30, and 60 minutes. The tools used during the intervention were swaddling cloths and vital sign monitoring. The results of the implementation showed an increase in oxygen saturation and respiratory rate stability in the managed patient, with an increase in SpO2 of 2–4% and a decrease in respiratory rate of 6–10x/minute.
