Abstract
Fracture is a condition characterized by the discontinuity of bone integrity caused by trauma or excessive force, resulting in severe pain and requiring comprehensive postoperative management. Postoperative fracture pain that is not properly managed can hinder the healing process, increase anxiety, and reduce the patient’s quality of life. Finger Hold Therapy is a simple relaxation technique based on evidence-based nursing that works through stimulation of finger reflex points and the gate control mechanism to reduce pain perception. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Finger Hold Therapy in reducing pain intensity among postoperative fracture patients. The intervention was administered for three consecutive days, with each session lasting 25 minutes, to patients who were conscious, cooperative, and hemodynamically stable. Pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) before and after each therapy session, accompanied by monitoring of vital signs. The results for Mr. S showed a decrease in pain intensity from 8/10 on the first day to 7/10, then 6/10, and finally 4/10 on the third day. Meanwhile, Mr. Y experienced a reduction from 7/10 to 5/10 on the first day, then 4/10, and 3/10 on the third day. These improvements were accompanied by stabilized blood pressure, decreased physiological responses to pain, increased relaxation, and better sleep quality in both patients. Overall, Finger Hold Therapy proved effective in reducing pain intensity in both patients, with consistent improvement observed each day. This intervention is considered safe, easy to implement, free of side effects, and beneficial as a complementary therapy in postoperative fracture pain management. Therefore, Finger Hold Therapy is recommended as a nonpharmacological, evidence-based nursing intervention to enhance patient comfort and support postoperative recovery.
