Abstract

Background: Children with Down syndrome often face challenges in their growth and development related to musculoskeletal problems, motor skills, and secondary conditions that indirectly limit their physical activity and impact their quality of life. Quality of life includes physical and psychological health, independence, social relationships, and environmental factors that can be taken into consideration when planning physiotherapy interventions to support children's development. Research Objective: This study aims to describe the quality of life of children with Down syndrome based on age, gender, cognitive function, sensory profile, and functional balance at Special Olympics Indonesia. Research Method: A quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. The PedsQL 4.0 Generic Core Scale Parents Form was used to assess 75 children with Down syndrome aged 2–18 years who met the inclusion criteria. Research Results: Most children with Down syndrome at Special Olympics Indonesia demonstrated good quality of life, particularly those with good cognitive function, relatively normal sensory profiles, and good functional balance, with the majority being male adolescents. Conclusion: Good quality of life among children with Down syndrome at Special Olympics Indonesia was predominantly observed in male adolescents with good cognitive function, relatively normal sensory profiles, and good functional balance.
