Abstract
Patients who have undergone treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) are at risk of experiencing a decline in physical function after leaving critical care, particularly in their ability to perform daily activities independently. This condition can continue in the post-ICU phase, especially in patients who are still undergoing follow-up care, thereby increasing the patient’s dependence on family members as primary caregivers. This role has the potential to cause physical, emotional, social, and financial burdens for families. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of dependence on daily activities of post-ICU patients in follow-up care and the burden on families as caregiver at RSUD Tarakan. This study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional designthe sample size was 46 family caregivers of post-ICU patients selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using validated standard instruments, namely the Barthel Index and the 22-item Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI-22). Data analysis was performed using Somers’ D correlation test. The results showed a p-value of 0.700 (p > 0.05) with a Somers’ D coefficient of 0.05, indicating no significant relationship between the level of dependence on daily activities of post-ICU patients undergoing follow-up care and the burden on the family as caregivers. It is hoped that health workers can provide comprehensive education and support to families in accompanying the follow-up care of post-ICU patients.
