Abstract

Nurses working in shift systems have a higher tendency to experience work-related health problems, such as symptoms of Shift Work Sleep Disorder (SWSD) and Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs), which may influence job satisfaction. Job satisfaction is an important factor in supporting nurses’ performance and the quality of hospital health services. This study aimed to examine the relationship between SWSD symptoms and MSD complaints with job satisfaction among shift nurses at Pertamina Jaya Hospital in 2025. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design involving 75 shift nurses selected through total sampling. Data were collected using the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Nordic Body Map, and Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-square test. The results showed a significant relationship between SWSD symptoms and job satisfaction (p = 0.001) and between MSD complaints and job satisfaction (p = 0.010). The study suggests optimizing shift work arrangements to reduce the tendency of SWSD symptoms and implementing ergonomic programs to decrease MSD complaints as efforts to improve nurses’ job satisfaction.
