Abstract
The phenomenon of delaying the age of first marriage is becoming increasingly common globally, including in South Jakarta, Indonesia. This study focused among female medical students who have longer periods of education and strong career orientation. This study also aims to determine the correlation between women's independence and career interests with the desire to delay the age of first marriage among female students of the UPN “Veteran” Jakarta Medical Undergraduate Program in 2025. The study used a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 58 respondents were selected using simple random sampling and stratified random sampling. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-square test, and also multivariate analysis using logistic regression. The results showed that most respondents wanted to delay marriage (82.76%), had a high (62,07%) to very high (37,93%) level of women independence, and had a high (53.45%) to very high (46.55%) interest in pursuing career in medicine. The bivariate test results showed that there was no significant correlation between women independence and the desire to delay marriage (p = 0.199), no significant relationship between interest in pursuing career in medicine and the desire to delay marriage (p = 0.083), and there was a significant relationship between women independence and interest in a career in medicine (p < 0.01). This study concludes that most of female medical students want to delay their first age of marriage. Although women independence and career interests are not the main corresponding factor, other factors such as financial readiness, emotional readiness, family and social factors, relationship status, and region of origin may have a greater influence. Further research is recommended to include other internal and external variables to obtain more comprehensive corresponding factors.
