Abstract
Anxiety is a psychological disorder often experienced by women due to social pressure, trauma, and unhealthy relationships. Its representation in films is crucial in shaping public understanding of mental health. This study practically aims to explore how anxiety is represented in the film “Sehidup Semati”, and theoretically to enrich studies in communication, mental health, society, and cinema. A descriptive qualitative method was used with Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic analysis. The researcher analyzed 28 selected shots focusing on body gestures, facial expressions, lighting, and spatial atmosphere. Results show anxiety is depicted through affective, cognitive, and behavioral responses. Signs like crying, hiding, and nightmares indicate strong psychological tension. Visual elements such as dim lighting and confined spaces enhance this meaning. The study concludes that the film presents anxiety not only as a personal issue but also as a reflection of women’s structural burden within patriarchal systems and gender inequality.
