Abstract

The growing greenhouse gas emissions in Indonesia annually, which present a significant obstacle to environmental sustainability, is the topic of this study. To address this, Indonesia has implemented the Bali Compact Commitment agreed upon during Indonesia’s G20 Presidency in 2022, primarily through the promotion of electric automobiles and motorcycles. The purpose of this study is to clarify how the Indonesian government's electric car policy is being implemented in order to support the environmental commitment declaration. This study employs a qualitative methodology, using government representatives in interviews and documentation as data gathering methods. The concept of energy transition, international regime theory, and public policy theory are all mentioned in the analysis. The findings demonstrate that in order to promote the use of electric vehicles, the Indonesian government has implemented a number of laws and financial incentives, including Presidential Regulation No. 55/2019. This pledge supports the country's efforts to meet its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) obligations under the Paris Agreement. The market for electric cars is expanding and the number of electric motorcycles is rising, both of which indicate significant progress. There is already scientific proof that electric cars emit fewer carbon emissions than traditional fuel-powered cars. However, because the proportion of electric vehicles in Indonesia is still far lower than that of fuel-powered vehicles, the environmental impact of this transition has not yet been substantial. However, through legislation, financial incentives, and infrastructure development, the government is still working to promote the use of electric vehicles.
