Abstract
The fire protection system is an integrated system installed or constructed to ensure the safety of buildings and their occupants. Fires can cause significant asset and life losses if preventive and responsive systems are not functioning optimally. Regular inspection and maintenance are necessary to ensure the system activates properly when fire is detected. Building 3 of PT X, a mixed-use building located in Central Jakarta with high visitor intensity and surrounded by many other buildings, was selected as the research site. This qualitative study aims to assess the suitability of the building's fire protection system through field observations and in-depth interviews with informants selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Informants hold relevant positions within PT X. The results show that all active protection components—including fire alarms, sprinklers, hydrants, and fire extinguishers—are available and functional. Most life safety facilities meet the requirements. Evacuation routes, exit signs, and assembly points scored 100% and fall under the “Good” category. Emergency doors and stairs scored 80%, while emergency lighting scored 75%. Building management is advised to install glass panels on emergency doors, replace damaged lighting units, and add handrails as specified.
