Abstract
Inhalation therapy using a nebulizer is one of the common methods applied to children with respiratory tract disorders. Although this therapy is frequently used and does not cause pain, the use of a mask and exposure to vapor during the procedure can cause discomfort and may even trigger fear and anxiety in children. The anxiety that arises due to inhalation therapy can be prevented and reduced through the implementation of various non-pharmacological therapies. This study aims to analyze the application of therapeutic play intervention to reduce fear and anxiety in children during inhalation therapy in the emergency department. One form of non-pharmacological intervention that can be provided is play therapy using a toy nebulizer. This study uses the Children’s Anxiety Meter (CAM-S) instrument to measure children’s anxiety and the Children’s Fear Scale (CFS) to measure children’s fear. After a single intervention, there was a decrease in anxiety scores according to the CAM-S scale from 4/10 (mild anxiety) to 1/10 (no anxiety), as well as a decrease in fear scores according to the CFS scale from 2/4 (moderate fear) to 0/4 (no fear). Based on these results, it is hoped that this therapy can be implemented as a non-pharmacological management to reduce anxiety and fear during inhalation therapy
