Abstract
Pain is the main complaint often experienced by patients when coming to the Emergency Department (IGD) and if not handled optimally can cause psychological impacts to long-term nervous system damage. So far, pain management in the ER generally still relies on a pharmacological approach, which although effective, has the risk of side effects and drug dependence. Non-pharmacological therapy, especially distraction methods such as Virtual Reality (VR) is an innovation in helping to reduce pain perception safely and pleasantly. This study aims to analyze the implementation of nursing care using Virtual Reality therapy in reducing pain in patients in the ER of Bhayangkara Hospital TK.1 Pusdokkes Polri. The method used is a case study of two patients with complaints of acute pain. Intervention was given through Virtual Reality therapy using Roller Coaster and Feeding Frenzy content for a maximum of 20 minutes. Evaluation was conducted using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. The results showed a significant decrease in the level of pain in the first managed patients from a scale of 8 to 3 (mild pain) and in the second managed patients from a scale of 7 (controlled severe pain) to 3 (mild pain). These results strengthen the effectiveness of VR therapy as part of a non-pharmacologic intervention in acute pain management in the ER and can be used as a supporting approach in evidence-based nursing care (Evidence Based Nursing) Keywords : pain, Virtual Reality, non-pharmacologic intervention, nursing care, ER
