Abstract

Background: An episiotomy is an incision procedure that is performed before a baby is born to widen the vaginal area. Postpartum episiotomy can result in tissue disconnection, triggering pain, damage to blood vessels and the risk of fluid volume deficiency. Improper handling of episiotomy wounds can lead to infection. In Indonesia, the rate of episiotomy in childbirth ranges from 30 to 63% of deliveries, this figure increases to 93% in the delivery of the first child. Purpose: This study aims to provide nursing care to Mrs. E with episiotomy lesions in spontaneous postpartum in the area of the Soedirman State Defense Center Hospital, South Jakarta. Method: The design of this study uses a descriptive method in the form of a case study in implementing nursing care for Mrs. E with episiotomy wounds. Data collection was carried out by means of interviews, observations and physical examinations. Result: The results of the study were obtained that the nursing care carried out on Mrs. E during the two days of treatment, was in accordance with the objectives and criteria of the planned outcome such as the risk of infection did not occur, the discomfort disorder could be resolved, and the postpartum nutritional needs were met. Conclusion: After monitoring the signs of infection, fulfilling nutrition, and acupressure therapy, it is hoped that Mrs. E will be able to carry out treatment independently while at home.
