Abstract
Objective: Physicians bear significant responsibilities, including providing healthcare services and patient management. To produce competent physicians, medical education is designed in two stages: pre-clinical and clinical clerkship. This study aims to evaluate the perceptions of FK UPNVJ students regarding the initial transition to clinical clerkship, workload, direct patient interaction, and confidence in applying pre-clinical knowledge. Methods: This descriptive study employed a cross-sectional approach involving FK UPNVJ students from batches 66, 67, and 68. A total sample of 146 students was selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed univariately using SPSS. Results: A total of 82.6% of students felt ready to undergo clinical clerkship, although 4.9% considered discontinuing their studies. Furthermore, 93.8% of students perceived the workload during clinical clerkship as very heavy and demanding. Direct patient interaction was considered beneficial for learning by 87.5% of students. Additionally, 81.9% of students found the knowledge acquired during the pre-clinical stage to be relevant and supportive in facing clinical challenges. Conclusion: Most FK UPNVJ students have a positive perception of the clinical clerkship program. However, several indicators reveal negative perceptions that need to be addressed
